We're excited to begin the second nine weeks of school! This is a pivotal time where we build depth and endurance in our learning, and your partnership is essential.
Our core focus for at-home support is on building foundational skills and critical thinking. Please help us reinforce these habits every night:
Math Fluency:
Dedicated time to practice facts is crucial. Please work with your child to develop automaticity in these areas:
-
Grades K-2: Master addition and subtraction facts.
-
Grades 3-5: Master multiplication and division facts.
Reading and Critical Thinking:
Please continue to read with your child every night, but shift the focus from just reading the words to deep comprehension. After you finish a book or chapter, engage in a conversation using questions like:
- "What was the book mostly about? Can you tell me three important details that support that topic?" (Relevant Details)
- "What is your opinion on the main character's decision? Why?" (Analysis)
- "If the author had changed one thing early in the book, how might the ending be different?" (Alternate Ending/Critical Thinking)
By working together on fluency and deep questioning, we'll ensure our students are not just learning content, but truly thinking critically. Thank you for your continued support!
FOCUS ON KINDNESS!
Last week, our students truly embraced the "I See the Good in You" Challenge! It was inspiring to watch them intentionally look for and recognize positive qualities in their peers, leading to several students earning prizes for their mindful acts of kindness. While the challenge cards have been turned in, the greatest reward is the positive culture we are building. Let's not let this momentum fade. Please continue this practice at home by asking your child nightly to share one positive thing they observed about a classmate, a sibling, or a friend. We know that what we focus on, we get more of, and by focusing on the good, we are growing kinder, more resilient human beings. Thank you for partnering with us to keep this spirit alive.
